Symphony in the Flint Hills Sells Out

One of the hottest tickets for the Kansas summer, Symphony in the Flint Hills, has sold out in a record one day.

Tickets for the June 16 event went on sale at 10 a.m., Monday, March 5 and were sold out by the end of the day. Tickets were sold through the Kansas City Symphony box office via telephone, Internet and in person. According to the Symphony, the box office was overwhelmed with requests, making for an unprecedented and unexpected one-day sell out.

"This tremendous outpouring of interest in the concert is great confirmation that the Flint Hills is a destination that has the ability to draw people to the region. We encourage people who don't have a concert ticket to still take advantage of all that the Flint Hills offers," said Suzan Barnes, chairman of the board for Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc. "There will always be music in the grasses of the Flint Hills, whether it's the wind gently blowing across the prairie or the sounds of nature resonating from the hillsides."

Those without a ticket can still enjoy Wabaunsee County, the site of the 2006 concert. The county is rolling out the red carpet for the event and is offering a number of free activities. Eight historic towns are planning tours and events throughout the concert weekend. Alma, Kan., will host a traditional German lunch and Paxico will offer a wine tasting and antique-store open house. An exhibit of thirty new National Geographic magazine photographs of the Flint Hills by renowned Kansas photographer, Jim Richardson, will be on display in Eskridge.

Symphony in the Flint Hills is still offering $1,000 Patron Packages that include two tickets to the concert and a number of VIP amenities ranging from an after concert party with the Governor to VIP parking and access to the hospitality tent at the site. There are also Sponsorship opportunities ranging from $3,000 to $35,000. For details on these packages, call 620-273-8955.

Symphony in the Flint Hills, Inc., a non-profit organization, plans to produce an annual symphonic concert in different locations within the natural landscape of the Flint Hills of Kansas to celebrate the largest remaining expanse of native tallgrass prairie in North America.
